Growing up, my dad always cooked for me and my sister. He used to ask me to come help him in the kitchen so I could learn, but I never wanted to because I thought my dad would cook me dinner forever. Turns out, moving out means you can’t take Dad and his cooking with you. For about two months straight, all I made myself was frozen, stove-cooked pasta, frozen pizza, cup of noodles (which I’m still guilty of eating), and cereal. As you can imagine, I got quite sick of eating those exact same foods. Eventually, I was taught how to make spaghetti. Looking back at that moment, I think it’s ridiculous that I couldn’t even make something as simple as spaghetti. Really, the only thing holding me back was how to cook the beef and what seasonings to add. But once I got the hang of it, I slowly started making other things like tacos/burritos, steak, chicken, fresh veggies like asparagus and artichoke, my very own cheesy-garlic bread, and so much more! I also realized that my dad was just a phone call away to ask for cooking advice. After getting comfortable cooking all kinds of stuff, I started getting in the habit of meal prepping. I had always been afraid of meal prepping because I thought it was only for people who go to the gym and eat healthy food. Thankfully, that’s nowhere near true! Meal prepping is different for many people, but to me, it simply means making enough food to last three or four extra days. By no means do I cook anything super healthy! (I mainly cook pasta because it’s just so quick and easy to make.) This is why I wanted to create a blog for beginners about food; cooking can be so intimidating at first. Hopefully I can help show you how easy and fun cooking can be! This semester, I hope to explore new dishes to cook and share with you guys! I’m excited to share everything I know so far! I love cooking new things because it gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me feel proud. Hopefully this blog will make you feel the same way when you start your cooking journey.
